Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's achieved huge success with the tales she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift discovered a love for musical instruments as a young person and quickly progressed from playing in kids' shows, before making her first appearance public. Swift was 11 years old when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. Following that she started writing her own songs and picked up the guitar. Swift got the inspiration to write her own material by the music of country genre such as Shania Twain or the Dixie Chicks. When she was 13 Swift's parents decided to sell their property in Pennsylvania to move to Hendersonville Tennessee so she could devote more of her time to wooing labels from the country near Nashville.
